Uzbekistan, officially the Republic of Uzbekistan, is a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia, formerly part of the Soviet union. It shares borders with Kazakhstan to the west and to the north, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to the east, and Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to the south.

Uzbekistan is rich in natural resources, and it's stronger in the five Central Asian CIS countries. However, the economic structure is single and the processing industry is lagging behind. Agriculture, animal husbandry and mining is developed. Uzbekistan is rich in mineral resources, the total value of mineral reserves reach 3.5 trillion dollars. There are nearly 100 species of proven minerals. The minerals are mainly natrual gas, coal, petroleum, nonferrous metals, gold, copper, lead, zinc, and rare metals, gold reserves etc. Among the minerals, gold reserves rank fourth in the world, annual production of 80 tons, ranking 2nd in the CIS. Copper and tungsten reserves rank in the forefront of the CIS countries. Oil, silver, and platinum, zinc, bauxite and other metal deposits are also very abundant.

Uranium mining accounted for 25% of the former Soviet Union. Coal reserves are about 2 billion tons. Natural gas resources are mainly distributed in the northeast Karakul basin edge and the Bukhara Deer inverstigation stage area, and the largest gas reserves of gaz is about 4193 cubic meters. Oil resources are more concentrated in the eastern Tianshan fold belt of the Fergana Basin, and the proven reserves are of 5.84 million tons. The main export materials from Uzbekistan are cotton, petroleum, natural gas, power, nonferrous metals and agricultural products, the imports are mainly machinery equipment, food, industrial raw materials.
